Trader Joe’s Is Coming to DFW

There are some grocery stores you stop by because you need groceries, and then there’s Trader Joe’s.

The California-based grocery chain has built a pretty loyal following, so three new DFW locations are likely to get more attention than your average supermarket announcement. Trader Joe’s has confirmed plans for stores in North Fort Worth, Plano, and Wylie, adding to its growing presence across North Texas.

And the locations themselves are worth looking at.

The North Fort Worth store is planned for 9052 North City Dr., just south of North Tarrant Parkway. It will be part of Presidio Junction, across from Target and Costco and near a growing collection of restaurants and retailers. Portillo’s is nearby, and H-E-B Alliance is less than two miles away. Once complete, this will be Fort Worth’s second Trader Joe’s, joining the Hulen Street store that opened in 2012.

Then there’s Plano.

The new store at 5900 Preston Rd. near Spring Creek Parkway is probably the location that will get the most interesting grocery-store attention. It’s planned directly across from H-E-B’s Plano location, putting two very different grocery brands within a very short walk of each other. Trader Joe’s will also have a second Plano location, with its existing Preston Road store only a couple of miles south.

Wylie is getting in on it, too. The planned store at 2710 E. FM 544 will sit near Wylie High School and Kroger Marketplace. Head a little farther around the area, and you’ll find Aldi, Sprouts, Target, and the newer H-E-B in Murphy.

That’s a lot of grocery choices packed into a relatively small stretch of North Texas.

And honestly, that may be part of what makes these announcements interesting. Grocery stores have become more than just places to pick up milk and eggs. Trader Joe’s has its own following, from the seasonal products that disappear almost as quickly as they arrive to the frozen meals and snacks people swear by. You can walk in intending to grab a few things and somehow leave with a bouquet of flowers, a new snack to try, and three items that weren't on your list.

The three new stores are expected to average about 12,500 square feet. Current Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filings show construction beginning in December 2026 for the Fort Worth and Plano locations, with Wylie scheduled to begin in March 2027. The projects are currently listed for completion around June 2027, although those dates and the proposed addresses can still change.

Trader Joe’s currently has 26 stores in Texas, according to CultureMap, so these three additions would make an already noticeable North Texas presence even bigger.

For DFW shoppers, the fun part now is waiting to see which one opens first, what the finished stores look like, and just how busy those first grocery runs are going to be.

Because if there’s one thing we can probably count on, it’s that someone is already planning their first Trader Joe’s trip.
